Learn about the original EHW movement (2012-2017)

Empty Handed Warriors (EHW) was an international multilingual hip hop collective started by Unknown Mizery in 2012 during his tour with Babylon Warchild across Europe. Mizery arrived in Europe with only 200 euros, some t-shirts, and 500 CDs to sell and survive. Originally booked for one concert in the Czech Republic, he decided to take the money from that show and take the train to other countries in the continent where he would hit open mics, local rap shows, and sell merch while busking on the streets to network and survive.

In this process, he met rappers, producers,  promoters, DJs, indie press, some of his existing fans who helped him get couches to sleep on or studios to record in, found videographers and other rappers or producers who wanted to pay him for features. He would meet someone who would say "Hey, come perform in Berlin on Saturday," then on Saturday, he would meet someone who says "Come perform in Switzerland on Monday," and so forth. This is how he survived and ended up performing across Europe at shows he got booked at as an official act with Stiltz of Babylon Warchild. He extended his flight, performed and recorded across the continent for three months.

During his tour, Mizery started acknowledging the trials and triumphs, the barriers and obstacles that he faced and how he overcame them with the help of hip-hop heads across the continent. He wanted to create a network of artist musicians, videographers, producers, promoters, and even general hip-hop heads who have a couch or a ride to assist artists who want to organize a grassroots tour in the future. He wanted to gather the people that helped him find success on this tour and put them in a database so they can all access and organize their own international tours and multilingual collaborations.

Mizery's vision was to create this network so that members and himself could make touring across the globe and collaboration with international artists easier. EHW gave birth to some of the first cross-language music collaborations that any genre has ever seen. His vision was to travel the globe on his tours as Unknown Mizery and some with Babylon Warchild, where he would handpick new members so the network would become international. The membership rose to 100+ when he realized that without a formal agreement and mission statement, conflict and misrepresenting the mission were inevitable.

Unfortunately, the movement fell apart due to miscommunications and negative messaging. However, years later, Unknown Mizery, also known as King Mizo, brought the EHW collective back to life, this time with a solid mission statement and an agreement that members must sign to provide conflict resolution and longevity. The mission of EHW was to bring hip-hop culture together and empower artists, producers, and promoters to do it themselves through a solid network and not have to rely on labels or gatekeeping tour companies. The focus on empowering artists, producers, and promoters to connect and collaborate without relying on labels or gatekeeping tour companies aligns with the DIY spirit of hip-hop culture.

Today, EHW continues to support and connect artists across the globe. For anyone interested in learning more about the rebirth of EHW, raptoken.xyz is a useful resource
